Filson Mackinaw Hat

Filson is one of my go-to heritage brands for rugged workwear. Sure, when you think workwear maybe Carhartt or Dickies come to mind, but I’ve found that Filson designs which have been around for a while seem to work exceptionally well for my everyday chores. Take for example the Filson Packer Hat in their Mackinaw wool, I still have my fathers old Mackinaw wool Cruiser and it’s a hard-wearing piece of clothing that hardly shows any signs of wear. This Mackinaw wool is tough and warm, plus it has a beautiful texture to it which just looks cool. So for the snowy days out on a hike, getting firewood, or even just getting the mail I was in need of a brimmed hat. The Packer Hat is very sturdy and thick, it seems like it may last forever if taken care of! The great thing about wool is that it’s naturally water resistant, fire resistant, and warm even when wet. So while this may not replace the best DWR treated tech-wear, it’s combination of handsome rugged appearance, warmth, and durability have made it my first choice in the winter months in New England. It looks like Filson did it again and worked their way into my wardrobe!

PO W says:

Great looking hat…and it goes very well with your vintage jacket.
Thanks for sharing this!

Allen Sandusky says:

Thanks for the video. A great hat company is Optimo hats in Chicago. They make hats for lots of celebrities. Did the hats for Public Enemy with Johnny Depp. Anyway, worth checking out. Never thought I would wear a hat until I visited them and ended up buying a beaver fedora and straw hat.

Fundamentalist American. says:

Had the same hat for about 10 years in waxed cotton and one in wool for about 5. They are both used a lot and still like new.

Fit Man Style says:

Sweet looking hat, do you usually go xl on hats and is it true to size?

Robert Wang says:

I recently got a hat from Optimo hat in Chicago. If you like hat, check them out. They have many styles. Downside is that Optimo hat is expensive.

John Wood says:

Just FYI ,if you keep taking it off and on by grabbing the front peak you will break a hole there. Lift it by the brim. Good video otherwise.

John H says:

I have the Filson Packer in the cotton, but I’m in So Cal so don’t get the weather to merit the Mackinaw wool much. Great hats though – love mine.

Hey,. just a heads up check out Stormy Kromer, from northern MI, great company! Great video, I am from N-MN so I have other ways of use but the way you evaluate, gives me great impression, and I get great stuff on other things as I become an old man?!

Henry Ho says:
